Joy at a Stop Light

Close to my house is an intersection for the local high school. Before the pandemic, about two thousand students attended the school.  If you hit that red light when classes let out, you’d be stuck waiting there for several minutes.

For the first time in over a year, I came up on that intersection and saw hundreds of students leaving the campus. Instead of the usual frustration of being stuck at the light, a strange sensation overtook me. A joyful lightness filled me as I watched these kids, most still wearing their masks, head for home. I just sat in my car smiling like a fool.

This pandemic has brought lots of tragedy, but it has also brought unexpected gratitude.

Music Side Note:  I’m in love with JP Saxe’s music these days. You might know this Canadian singer for his award-winning song with Julia Michaels, “If the World was Ending.” His soulful style really touches my heart, and the song, “A Little Bit Yours,” has to be the saddest break-up song ever written.  If you haven’t heard it, here’s the link.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwXlRq_QyTI
