A Singer, A Cat and Jesus

So what do these three random things have in common? No, it’s not the title of Blake Shelton’s latest album. I’m so not country that Blake Shelton is the only country singer I really know (thanks to The Voice).

The common denominator is that they are stories that make me laugh whenever I think about them. I hope one of them lightens your day and makes you smile.

A Singer

Several years ago, my friend JS called me and asked if I knew Ingrid Michaelson.

“Yes,” I said. “I think she’s a software engineer at my company.”

“Well then,” she paused. “I guess I’m not going to ask you to go to her concert with me.”

For those more knowledgeable than me, you know that Ingrid Michaelson is a very accomplished singer/songwriter.

A Cat

As an at-home Covid project, I’ve been repurposing an old mink coat I inherited from my long deceased mother. After making a couple of pillows, I had some odd pieces leftover. So I bought some catnip and made a toy for my friend LAF’s new kittens. Below is one of them playing (attacking) it.

Her son and his girlfriend “B” visited recently. “B” picked up the new toy and asked about it. When LAF told her that the fur came from my dead mom’s mink coat, “B” shrieked and threw it across the room.

Jesus

At a recent Zoom book club meeting, we were discussing “Dear Edward,” which is the story about the sole survivor of a plane crash. We talked about what it was like to read a story knowing that almost everyone dies. This led to a conversation about our next book, “The Book of Longings,” which is a story about a woman named Ana who is married to Jesus. Someone mentioned that we all knew how that story ended, Jesus died.

Then one gal said, “But did he?”

Praise Big Jesus! I’ve seen quite a few Big Jesus statues in my travels. In 2017, I visited Rosarito, Mexico, and saw this big guy. At 75 feet tall, it is quite imposing, but it’s the red robe that makes it truly stand out.
