Whenever Halloween rolls around, I’m more attentive to real life hauntings. And like some people I know, I tend to share things in a set of three. When I looked into why we do this, I found there isn’t a scientific reason. It seems we look for patterns in random data. So I share with you my random data.
Messages from the Past
During a recent renovation, my husband was moving some furniture around in his office. When he moved his bookcase, he called me in to see something. On the top of the bookcase I read the words, “Hy was here ’93.” Back in the 90’s, my dad would pitch in whenever there was a painting job to do. Always the prankster, he hid that message for me to find 27 years later.
On a similar note: isn’t it freaky when Facebook does its “On This Day” anniversary memories and you receive messages from deceased people. Yes, Dad, I’m talking ’bout you.
The Doll Head
Way back in March, I started my walking routine. On one of my routes, I thought I’d come up upon a cat hiding in some shrubs near the sidewalk. Closer inspection revealed it was the head of a doll. By the looks of things, this doll had a rough life.
Seven months later, I decided to check in on her. OMG, she’s still in the bushes with that one eyeball staring at me.
Skulls
I’ve also been exploring the local high school in our area. (Do not do this during weekdays or you will get yelled at.) Anyway, this is a huge campus and there is always something new to discover. I was in the art design area and couldn’t believe what I saw displayed on poles: stacks of sculptured skulls. Completely intrigued, I called and emailed the staff at the school. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the story behind the skulls as that well-loved art teacher retired a few years ago. I did find out he’s singing in a band now. Love it.
