I recently had the pleasure of babysitting a friend’s five-month-old son. It’s a great age because they can’t go anywhere on their own yet. In other words, they can’t escape from you. My babysitting partner was their first and now jealous child, a dog.
When my furry friend finally accepted me and calmed down, she became my wing dog for the day. This was especially handy when I forgot that you can’t pick up a baby too fast. The first time I did so, the little pumpkin barfed over my shoulder and onto the tile floor. Wing dog to the rescue.
It reminded me of when my daughter was a baby and ate in her high chair. Our whippet, Diva, would wiggle her thin snout under the tray and clean up anything that didn’t make it into our daughter’s mouth. Dogs are good that way.
When I came across this quote from Johnny Depp, I knew I had to include it with this story. Try not to smile…
